A and B are two stations 540 km apart. A train starts from A at 8.30 A.M. and travels towards B at 72 km/hr. Another train starts from B at 9.30 A.M. and travels towards A at 45 km/hr. At what time do they meet ?
Solution: Suppose they meet x hours after 8.30 A.M. then,
(Distance covered by first train in x hrs)+(Distance covered by second train in (x-1) hrs) = 540.
.'. 72x + 45(x - 1) = 540
=> 117x = 585
=> x = 5.
So, they will meet 5 hrs after 8.30 A.M. i.e., at 1.30 P.M.
