A man covered a distance of 43 km in 9 hours. He traveled some distance on foot at a speed of 2 km/hr and some distance on bicycle at a speed of 12 km/hr. The distance traveled on foot is:
Solution: Let the distance traveled on foot be x km.
Then, distance traveled on bicycle = (43-x) km.
So, x/2 + (43-x)/12 = 9
=> 6x + 43 -x = 12*9
=> 5x = 108 - 43
=> x = 65/5
=> x = 13.
